According to a leaked database, the Chinese government put Uighurs in detention camps for praying or attending mosque under a mass detention campaign. The detention campaign engulfed Memtimin Emer's native Xinjiang region three years ago and the elderly Uighur imam was swept up and locked away, along with three of his sons. The database shows that the state focused on religion as a reason for detention.
