Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated India's longest electrified rail tunnel between Cherlopalli and Rapuru and also Venkatachalam and Obulavaripalli. Naidu announced this 6.7-km-long tunnel an "engineering marvel." The cost of this tunnel is Rs 437 crore which has 44 trolley refuges along with 14 cross-passages. This will ease congestion of both passenger and freight carrying trains in Vijayawada-Gudur-Renigunta-Guntakal sections.
