Villagers in Goa tie ‘rakhis’ to trees to lodge protest against setting up IIT-Goa campus

Villagers in Goa’s Melaulim took to an innovative way to lodge their protest against the setting up of an IIT campus in a thickly forested stretch of land. The villagers in Goa’s eastern corner tied rakhis to the trees that are earmarked to make way for the project. The protest against the project gained momentum in as early as February this year. People from nearly 300 villages took part in the protest.
