Voter Id card sufficient proof of citizenship, Mumbai Court defends couple arrested by city police

A Mumbai court earlier this month mentioned that an election card or voter identification card was sufficient proof of citizenship. The court remark came after city police arrested a couple, suspected of being Bangladeshi. Mumbai Police had earlier arrested 45-year-old Abbas Shaikh and his 40-year-old wife Rabiya Khatoon Shaikh on suspicion of being Bangladeshi and charged them of violating Passport Rules and Foreigners act.
