WHO recommends improving the doctor to patient ratio in the country to 1:1000; which at present, India has 1 doctor for every 10,189 patients. India has a deficit of 600,000 doctors. The situation is even worse in Bihar and UP where 1 doctor caters to 28,391 people. UP with 19,962 people per doctor; Jharkhand with 18,518 people per doctor; MP with 16,996 people per doctor; Chattisgarh with 15,916 people per doctor.
