Why was Mahant Narendra Giri buried and not cremated like other Hindus?

Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri, who committed suicide, was given bhoo-samadhi (burial). While Hindus are generally cremated after death, there is an exception for holy Hindus. Since becoming a saint requires renouncing all worldly attachments and pleasures, the belief is that the holy person leaves the physical body and attains eternal immortality through a post-death process called Kapala Moksh.
