World Health Organization warns of 1 million additional TB cases due to malnutrition after pandemic

World Health Organization senior scientist and former director-general of the Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan has warned that tuberculosis cases may increase by 1 million globally due to malnutrition after the Covid pandemic. More than 10 million people are affected by TB every year. “TB notification dropped by 50 to 60% during the pandemic, which might result in higher cases in the future,” she said.
