Aadhaar made mandatory for registration of death from Oct 1

Expanding the scope of Aadhaar even more, the government has now made Aadhaar mandatory for registration of deaths starting October 1, 2017. Aadhaar would be required to establish the identity of the deceased for the purpose of death registration, the government said. Any false declaration given by the applicant will be treated as an offence. J&K, Assam and Meghalaya are exempt from mandatory Aadhaar.
