In a dramatic election, violation of rules by 2 betrayers Congress MLAs helped the opposition party save face in Gujarat. Congress leader Ahmed Patel will be back for his 5th term in the Rajya Sabha with 44 votes, he also managed to defeat Balwantsinh Rajput who had just 38 votes. Amit Shah and Union minister Smriti Irani won the 2 other seats vacant in the state, with 46 votes each.
