An election candidate rode on donkey to file application; charged over animal cruelty

Mani Bhushan Sharma, an independent candidate, rode on a donkey outside a local election office in Jehanabad town, Bihar & filed his nomination papers for the national ballot. The police charged him over animal cruelty. However, donkey & mule rides are legal & common in India. Convictions under the animal cruelty law that deal with physical harm, violence or abandonment of animals can result in fines or prison up to 7 years.
