After a US intelligence report named Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman for ordering the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, US lawmaker Ilhan Omar tabled a bill to sanction him for his role in the killing of the journalist. This comes after the Biden administration said it was not considering sanctioning Salman citing the US-Saudi ties. Omar saw Salman escaping punishment as the lives of Saudi dissenters being at risk.
