Chinese real estate tycoon and Xi Jinping's critic jailed for 18 years

Chinese real estate tycoon Ren Zhiqiang, who is also an outspoken critic of President Xi Jinping, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for corruption, bribery and embezzlement of public funds. Zhiqiang disappeared from the public eye in March, after he wrote an essay in which he questioned Jinping's response to the Covid19 pandemic. Also known as "Big Cannon", the man was once among the ruling Communist Party's inner circle.
