Following the footsteps of TMC, Congress party has also filed a plea against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Supreme Court. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh filed the plea against the act, in which he claimed that the new law violates the Right to Equality by not giving Indian citizenship to persecuted Muslims from neighbouring countries. CJI SA Bobde earlier declined TMC MP Mahua Moitra's request for urgent hearing.
