Former Sudan PM passes away at 84 in UAE due to coronavirus

Former Sudan Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi passed away at 84 due to the novel coronavirus three weeks after being hospitalized in the United Arab Emirates. Mahdi was Sudan’s last democratically elected Prime Minister and was overthrown in 1989 in the military coup that saw former president Omar al-Bashir rising back to power. The Umma Party said he would be buried on Friday morning in the city of Omdurman in Sudan.
