Germany’s Christian Democrats are set to elect a new chairman to succeed current chancellor Angela Merkel. Merkel is set to step down after federal elections in September. 1,001 delegates are going to vote for the election of the new CDU leader at a digital congress. Armin Laschet, arch-conservative Friedrich Merz and foreign policy expert Norbert Roettgenare are among the front runners for the post of CDU chairman.
