Japan set to halt fresh aid to Myanmar amid military coup

As protests continue to erupt in different parts of Myanmar, the government in Japan is mulling to halt new development aid to the country. However, the Japanese government is unlikely to call the suspension of Official Development Assistance (ODA) a "sanction" in view of diplomatic ties with Yangon. "We will carefully monitor the situation without prejudice and consider," Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said.
