Lukashenko sanctioned by European Union over increasing police violence over protestors

In a major action, the European Union has imposed sanctions on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and other senior officials over the allegedly rigged elections that were held on August 9. While Lukashenko was not on the EU’s sanctions list of 40 names, increased police violence over protestors led to the action by the EU. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Belarus hasn't engaged in any kind of conversation.
