Migrants will not get automatic citizenship under amended law: Centre

The centre said migrants from the neighbouring countries will not automatically gain citizenship even if they belong to 6 communities listed in the amended Citizenship Act. The central government is still in the process of framing rules for operationalizing the amended citizenship act. The controversial law paves the way for providing citizenship to migrants from 6 minority communities who arrived in India until Dec 31, 2014.
