Rape convicts should not be allowed mercy petition: President Ram Nath Kovind

After the encounter of the four accused in the gruesome Hyderabad vet rape-murder case, President Ramnath Kovind said there should be no provision of mercy pleas for child rapists. "Rape convicts under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act should not be allowed mercy petition," the President stated at an event. The President said, "Women safety is a serious issue and Parliament should review mercy petitions."
