Former Chief Justice of India and now a Rajya Sabha MP, Ranjan Gogoi spoke to the media briefly after taking the oath as an MP. When asked about the criticism over his appointment, Gogoi said: “They will welcome me very soon. There are no critics." Members of Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) opposed Gogoi’s appointment and walked out of the Rajya Sabha. They were joined by Communist party and DMK.
