More than 20,000 protesters gathered in Moscow demanding a free and fair election in the Russian capital. Protesters backed opposition candidates to be allowed to register for the September polls. The authorities so far have denied registering them despite each candidate collecting the minimum 5,000 signatures required to be eligible to run. Opposition leaders including Alexei Navalny joined supporters at the rally.
