Five states refuse to implement citizenship bill, Govt says they have no power

A day after the Citizenship Amendment Bill was cleared by the President to make it a law, it has become a virtual battle between the states and the centre. CMs of five states including Punjab, Kerala and West Bengal have refused to implement the act in their states. The states have no powers to deny implementation of a central law which is in the Union List," a senior home ministry official said reacting to the situation.
