Since inception, for the first time, the Supreme Court has provided sitting of a single -judge bench to hear the appeals of bails, anticipatory bails in cases related to offences entailing jail term up to 7 years. Until now, judges used to sit in the combination of two or three. The amendment said that a single judge will be nominated by the Chief Justice and may notify any other category of cases from time to time.
