US appointment of special coordinator for Tibetan issues triggers alarm in China

Hours after United States secretary of state Mike Pompeo appointed Robert Destro as the new special coordinator for Tibetan issues, China accused Washington of trying to destabilise Tibet. “Setting up of the so-called special coordinator for Tibetan issues is entirely out of political manipulation to interfere in China’s internal affairs and destabilise Tibet,” said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian.
