West Bengal govt orders private hospitals to provide free treatment to COVID-19 patients

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the West Bengal govt ordered the state-run private hospitals to provide free treatment for COVID-19 patients, adding that the entire cost will be borne by the state govt. The Mamata Banerjee govt also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1000 monthly for daily wages labourers. It decided to keep the ration shops open from 8 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 8 pm from April 24 to May 31.
