During the first game of the Big Bash league, played between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat, the latter team was 92 for 6 with Jimmy Peirson and James Pattinson batting, when Pattinson was ruled run out by the third umpire. The decision was surprising as Pattinson was clearly in, so Strikers' skipper Colin Ingram withdrew the appeal to bring him back. The match also saw the first 'bat flip' instead of a coin toss.
