Dakar Rally rider Pierre Cherpin dies due to Sunday’s crash injuries

Dakar Rally organisers confirmed on Friday that amateur bike rider Pierre Cherpin passed away following his crash last Sunday. The Frenchman, aged 52, crashed 178 kilometres into Sunday’s seventh stage. After being found unconscious he was rushed to hospital in Sakaka for surgery before being placed in an induced coma. He was then transferred to hospital in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia ahead of the trip back to France.
