Novak Djokovic saved two match points against Juan Martin Del Potro to moved to the semifinals of the Italian Open winning a three-set thriller 4-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-4. Meanwhile, defending champion Rafael Nadal swept through without dropping a set as he beat fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 6-0. Nadal will next face Greek rising star Stefanos Tsitsipas and Djokovic will play Argentine Diego Schwartzman.
