Barcelona striker Lionel Messi won the FIFA men's player of the year award at Milan's La Scala on Monday. Messi beat Ronaldo and Virgil Van Dijk to bag the award. Megan Rapionoe from the US won the FIFA women's player of the year award. Christiano Ronaldo didn't attend the event. Messi is now competing with Van Dijk for Ballon d'Or, which is to be announced on December 2. Messi thanked everyone after receiving the award.
