Serena Williams once again proved why she is still the Australian Open favourite with a fierce first-round win. Williams, eyeing a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam title, won the first set in 19 minutes in a 6-0 6-3 victory over Russia's Anastasia Potapova. The American will next play Slovenia's Tamara Zidansek next. Meanwhile, defending champion Naomi Osaka also started with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Marie Bouzkova.
