Sri Lanka criminalises match-fixing, sports betting, becomes 1st South Asian country to do so

In a bid to curb the acts of match-fixing and betting on sports events, Sri Lanka has criminalised several offences related to match-fixing. A bill entitled "Prevention of Offences Related to Sports" proposed by Sports Minister Harin Fernando and supported by former captain Arjuna Ranatunga was passed in the parliament under which, offences related to corruption in sports will carry a prison term of up to 10 years.
