According to a climate researcher, air travel by the world's top 20 footballers nominated for 2019 Ballon d'Or were responsible for generating 505 tonnes of Co2 emissions this year alone. Britain's Andrew Welfle said football bodies and teams must restrict air travel and find alternative methods for their frequent flier players to reduce CO2 emissions. 40 tonnes of CO2 emissions is equal to burning 44,000 pounds of coal approx.
