The iconic Hashtag symbol or the Octothorpe has become 11-years old and even though it was first use on Twitter today it has a higher purpose on social media as it is considered to be the unifying symbol for a body of thought or movement. Globally #MeToo brought together millions of sexual assault victims together. #Icebucketchallenge, #Yesallwomen were some other popular hashtags in recent time.
