Animal husbandry project gives India its first embryo transplant calf

A team under D.S. Bindra, the Superintendent Central Veterinary Hospital in Jammu had carried out a transplant of a seven-day frozen embryo of 'Sahiwal' breed in a crossbred Jersey cow last year, which has resulted in India's first female calf born through embryo transplant technology. Department of Animal Husbandry, Jammu in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board had supervised the project.
