NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover has discovered the highest amounts of clay minerals so far at a region often called ‘clay-bearing unit’ of Mars. Recently two samples were drilled at rock targets – ‘Aberlady’ and ‘Kilmarie.’ The clay-enriched region is on the side of the lower Mount Sharp. Clay often forms in water, so a new debate has started on what this new discovery means and the existence of water on Mars.
