General Bipin Rawat today took over as the first Chief of Defence Staff of India after serving as army chief for three years. General Rawat will get the same salary as the three service chiefs and will also hold the charge of permanent chairman, chiefs of staff committee (CoSC). His primary role will be to integrate the armed forces. General Rawat will act as the principal military adviser to the defence minister.
