His contributions are still firmly ingrained in India and worldwide. In 1883, Tagore married Mrinalini. He divorced his wife and never remarried in a period of 19 years. Even during his married life, it was considered that he desired personal company. "It would be lovely if you and I could be comrades in all our labour and in all our thoughts," he reportedly wrote to his wife in a letter, "but we cannot reach all that we seek."
