In 1962, following the Rivonia Trial, Nelson Mandela began his jail sentence
In 1962, he was caught and imprisoned, and after the Rivonia Trial, he was condemned to life in prison for conspiring to overthrow the state. Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years, divided between Robben Island, Pollsmoor Prison, and Victor Verster Prison. The Rivonia Trial occurred in South Africa between October 9, 1963 and June 12, 1964. Nelson Mandela and the other suspects in the Rivonia Trial were convicted of sabotage and condemned to life in prison at the Palace of Justice in Pretoria.
