Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal is a social activist, politician and the current and 7th Chief Minister of Delhi who shot limelight after he joined Anna Hazare in his protest to bring the Lokpal Bill during the Manmohan Singh government. He then founded the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) with his other friends like Manish Sisodia to come into mainstream politics. Born on 16 August 1968, Kejriwal is an IIT Kharagpur graduate and has served as Joint Commissioner of Income Tax in New Delhi. He got married to Sunita Kejriwal in 1994 and has two children Pulkit and Harshita. He was also the chief minister of Delhi from December 2013 to February 2014 for 49 days, after which he stepped down and won the elections again in 2015 with a historic majority obtaining 67 out of 70 seats. He has been a part of several marches and protests since his college life. 

Arvind Kejriwal has advocated the decentralisation of government since his first term as the chief minister of Delhi. He worked constantly despite the limited availability of the budget to make the lives of common people easy. The Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party emphasizes a lot on the education of children and a major chunk of the budget is spent in providing better education to all without any discrimination. In 2018-2019 Budget, Arvind Kejriwal government allocated Rs 13,997 crore for Education, which is 26% of the total Budget. He also promised cheap electricity and free water supply to all the Delhiites. Citizens using less than 20 kilolitres of water a month will not have to pay a single penny for it. The electricity bill has also been reduced remarkably. Another major promise that the Kejriwal government made is to provide free internet to every citizen of the capital through public hotspots.
