India extends USD 250 million loan 'without conditions' to Maldives to overcome COVID-19 economic impact

India has formally extended the USD 250 million loan to the Maldives to help it mitigate the economic impact of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. The Indian mission in the Maldives said in a statement, "The budgetary support of USD 250 million is extended without conditions." The grant, provided under the most favourable terms possible, was handed over at a ceremony in Maldivian capital Male.

Global internet giant Google's Play store rules forced Paytm to roll back a UPI cashback campaign which is legal in India, digital payments company Paytm claimed on Sunday. The company in a blog alleged that it was arm-twisted to take down its campaign while Google Pay has been running similar cricket-based promotions. Google had blocked Paytm on its Play store following a policy update on September 18.

Canada walks away from free trade talks with China over Huawei issue

After broken trade ties between US and China, Canada has also walked away from the free trade talks with Beijing amid tensions over a Huawei executive's arrest and the detention of two Canadians by Beijing in a countermeasure. Canadian foreign minister Francois Philippe Champagne told the media that Canada was abandoning the free trade talks. "The China of 2020 is not the China of 2016," Champagne said.

Husband rips open pregnant woman's stomach to check baby's gender in UP's Badaun

In a guesome incident in UP's Badaun, a father of five daughters allegedly ripped open the stomach of his pregnant wife on Saturday evening. Pannalal, a labourer, returned home in an inebriated condition and got into an argument with his wife. He then slit the stomach of his wife with a sharp-edged weapon allegedly to find out the gender of the baby. An FIR has been registered against the husband and he has been arrested.
