Belgium

Belgian chocolate is distinguished because it is only cooled at the end of the manufacturing process, allowing it to retain more of its aroma. Belgian chocolate is almost entirely handcrafted as well. Belgian chocolate is slightly more expensive due to these two factors, but as the saying goes, treat yourself! You can't visit Belgium and not visit a chocolate shop – there are over 2,000 in the country!

Switzerland

Even if you haven't visited Switzerland, you've most likely had Swiss chocolate. Lindt is the most well-known Swiss chocolate brand, and it is available all over the world. What's particularly intriguing about Swiss chocolate production is that, although Switzerland's climate isn't conducive to growing cacao plants, they found a way to produce chocolate nonetheless.

Ecuador

Ecuador produces some of the world's best cacao beans. Only about 5% of the world's cacao is labeled "Fine Aroma," and Ecuador produces nearly 63 percent of it. Until recently, Ecuador's efforts were focused on exporting cacao, but they have shifted their focus to producing their own chocolate in recent years.

United Kingdom

It's difficult to pass up a Cadbury egg when they appear in the grocery store. Still, the brand originated in the United Kingdom in the 1820s, selling tea, coffee, and drinking chocolate. In the 1850s, the Cadbury brothers supplied Queen Victoria with chocolate. In 1905, they created the popular Dairy Milk chocolate, known for its higher milk content.

Ivory Coast

Africans consume less than 4% of all chocolate sold worldwide. Still, the Ivory Coast hopes to change that with their handmade, artisanal chocolates. As the region continues to stabilize and experience economic growth, the country has begun producing its own chocolate. It is known as the leader in the production and export of cocoa beans. Their chocolate, which ranges from pralines to bars, is well-known locally and internationally, especially among corporate clients such as Air France and Citibank.

Italy

A quaint Italian cafe, an espresso, and a piece of Italian chocolate set the scene. What isn't to love? Amadei is Italy's most well-known chocolate manufacturer. They purchase their cocoa directly from growers to know where the beans came from and how they were grown. They use that knowledge to create some of the world's best chocolates. The Italians also like to use chocolate in their pastries, which is great news for anyone with a sweet tooth.

United States

The use of peanuts and almonds regularly. And, of course, there's Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania, a popular family destination for thrill rides as well as all the chocolate and confections one can eat! There are artisan chocolate shops all over the country, but Hershey's is the country's largest candy producer.
