Javed Akhtar (born 17 January 1945) is an Indian poet, lyricist, screenwriter, and political activist. He is most known for his work in Hindi film, for which he has received five National Film Awards[1, 2], as well as the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2007, two of India's highest civilian honours. Akhtar rose to prominence as a member of the combo Salim–Javed, and his debut as a screenwriter came with 1973's Zanjeer. He went on to write the films Deewar and Sholay, both of which were released in 1975 and garnered cult followings and had a considerable effect on popular culture.
