Omprakash Valmiki was a Dalit writer and poet from India. Joothan is well-known for his autobiography, which is regarded as a watershed moment in Dalit literature. He was born in the village of Barla in the Uttar Pradesh district of Muzzafarnagar. He lived in Dehradun after retiring from the Government Ordnance Factory, where he died on November 17, 2013, of complications from stomach cancer.
