For the first time, misleading advertisements will now attract penalties like fine and jail terms, under the Consumer Protection Bill, passed in Lok Sabha. The bill consists of provisions to penalize a manufacturer and celebrity endorser involved in such ads. The bill seeks to penalize misleading ads put on virtually any medium such as TV, radio, print, outdoor ads, e-commerce, direct selling & telemarketing.
