Tesla recently started using the camera above the rear-view mirror to ensure that individuals using Autopilot stay focused on the road. Unlike Ford, which employed camera-based eye-tracking systems, Tesla's cars detected driver attention primarily through torque sensors in the steering wheel that searched for resistance. The modification happened now after safety experts and regulators pleaded with Tesla for years.
