Hyundai, Kia agree to pay record $210 million for failing to recall 1.6 million cars on time

Automobile giants Hyundai Motor Corporation and Kia Motors' US units have agreed to pay a whopping $210 million civil penalty after they failed to recall 1.6 million vehicles for engine issues on time. Hyundai is required to pay a total civil penalty of $140 million, including an upfront payment of $54 million. Similarly, Kia motors will have to pay $70 million, including an upfront payment of $27 million.
