$69 billion as remittance received by India in 2017
India received $69 billion as remittance from its diaspora in 2017, keeping its status as the world’s top recipient. From 1991 to 2017, the remittance to India has increased from $3 billion to $69 billion, and contributed to 2.8% of GDP in 2017. 40% of this remittance was sent to Kerala. As per a world bank report, India was followed by China, The Philippines, Mexico, Nigeria and Egypt in terms of remittance received.
