Currency in circulation reaches record level

According to RBI data, the currency with the public, which is total currency excluding cash with banks, has been doubled from the level of post-demonetisation, which took place in late 2016. The level has hit a new record of over Rs 18.5 lakh crore as compared to post-demo level Rs 7.8 lakh crore. Meanwhile, the total currency in circulation has reached the level of Rs 19.3 lakh crore, from a low of about Rs 8.9 lakh crore.
