Employers may not hire new women to make up for Maternity Amendment Bill

The Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill, despite placing India as the third most progressive country, will hinder the entry of 11-18 lakh women into the workforce. TeamLease Service's report also found that SMEs and start-ups might offer a lower salary or hire a lesser number of women to counter the expenses resulting from the new maternity leave costs. However, the new amendment will be beneficial for national income.
