ITD writes off thousands of crores of tax arrears, revels RTI
The Income Tax Department "writing off" thousands of crores of tax arrears after being unable to recover tax dues from various tax-payers in the country. There is around Rs 50,000 crore of tax arrears all over India out of which Pune, Maharashtra tops with 33,157.97 crores. The revelation was made in a reply to RTI filed by Chandra Shekhar Gaur. Although CBDT officials said that dues are written off in certain provisions.
